Three Syrians arrested in Germany accused of planning attacks

Three Syrian men suspected of planning a terrorist attack were arrested in Germany six days ago. The plan was plotted to attack Dusseldorf for the Islamic State.  On Feb. 1 this year, a fourth Syrian man turned himself in Paris and provided intel on the attack. For four months, a plan to arrest the suspects was set in place. This is the time it took for German authorities to collect enough evidence to arrest the other three.

Saleh A., the fourth Syrian, remains in custody in Paris and Germany and is seeking extradition. Germany has not been the target of a major terrorist attack like the ones that have taken place in Belgium, Paris, Britain, and Spain. In fact, this arrest happens two months after the terrorist attacks on Brussels.

According to prosecutors, Saleh A. (25) and one of the three arrested men, Hamza C. (27), joined the Islamic State in Syria in 2014.  They were given orders to attack the city of Dusseldorf back then.  The leaders from IS sent them to Turkey in May of that same year.  It is thought that both men entered Germany through Greece separately in March and July, 2015.

Mahood B (25) joined the group in January 2016. The three then contacted Abd Arahman A. (31) and assigned him the task of building suicide vests, prosecutors said.

According to the statement, the plan was for two of the men to blow themselves up on a very busy road in Dusseldorf, while the other two would fire with guns and explosives at pedestrians.

The German authorities have pledged to protect the people from terrorist attacks with the best of their efforts.  These arrests and accusations seem to suggest that the Islamic State has been planning an attack on Germany as early as 2014.
