The US To Provide Security Blanket To Baltic Nations From Russian Aggression

In a bid to provide security for Baltic nations against Russian aggression, U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has announced the deployment of a combat brigade consisting of tanks and other armored vehicles in Europe. The deployment is to be done in six countries across the European continent including Estonia, Romania and Poland.

The military exercise is not to be seen as a revival of the 'cold war' between the US and Russia. The move is being made only to defend the allies of the US against Russian aggression. US forces and tanks have taken up their positions in NATO countries. Annexation of Crimea by Russia last year had provided the impetus for such deployment.

The US is to send 250 armored track vehicles to posts in Europe accompanied by tanks and artillery. But the deployment of US forces in European countries is not to be permanent. Officials confirmed that this was not a revival of the Cold War between the two nations. The US had dispatched a similar army regiment in the erstwhile West Germany during the days of the Cold War.

This is a part of the joint training exercises being conducted with NATO partners with the same effect of providing security to Baltic nations. This way, the US is going to be in a better position to conduct training exercises at more frequent intervals now.

Moreover, the move is going to send a strong conformation to Russian premier Vladimir Putin of the fact that the US supports is allies in the NATO with respect to the security of the Baltic nations.
