NDA Not Prepared To Accept Any More Changes To The Land-Bill

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has come out in favour of the land bill saying it is meant to give a boost to infrastructure in rural areas. The bill is meant to pave the way for good roads in villages, provide facilities for irrigation, and provide electricity and housing for all.

As per Jaitley, there is a disinformation about the bill being spread by Congress and its allies among the nation. The government is to oppose all disinformation tooth-and-nail by disseminating proper information regarding the bill among farmers. It plans to take the bill out to the farmers in May.

It is to be countered by party members from NDA reaching out to the general public in a bid to clarify the tenets of the land bill. Farmers are to be brought on board. The legislation is believed to help farmers. The 'anti-farmer' and 'anti-poor' label given to the proposed legislation by Congress is believed to be false.

UPA government brought out a land bill in 2013, but the incumbent NDA regime made some amendments to it. In its amended form, the bill cannot see the light of the day because of the stiff opposition it has met in Rajya Sabha. The government is not prepared to make any more amendments to the bill in any form.

But in view of other important bills being passed by Rajya Sabha, NDA legislators feel the land bill could also see its way through. The fact remains that NDA lacks a majority in Rajya Sabha.

The two-day conclave asserted NDA's commitment to help the farming community. It blamed Congress for blocking the bill in Rajya Sabha.
