WHO (World Health Organization) declared that Liberia is free of the Ebola virus. According to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, president, Liberia is safe, and this is a good reason for celebration. This country was seriously affected by Ebola virus. More than 4.700 people died from this virus. At this moment, Sierra Leone and Guinea are stiff fightings against this virus. In the last year, more than 11.000 people died in this region. The World Health Organization declared a country free of the Ebola virus if there are no new cases in 42 days. This is 2 times longer than incubation period.
The last known death in this country was on 27 March. Now, officials say that the Ebola virus was defeated thanks to a collective effort. Because this disease spreads through contacts, with infected people, hand-washing stations, and care centers were set up across the country in order to stop or slow down the disease. Also, there were many billboards that should help people realize the current situation and what they can do in order to protect themselves from this disease.
The situation in Liberia is even worse if you know that they lost 250.000 people in 2005, in a civil war. People are still worried and scared. Many of them shake when hear the ambulance siren. Although, Liberia is free from the Ebola virus, this situation will have a long and negative effect on their economy. This was the deadliest outbreak in history.
