Lakhvi Release From Jail Valid Because Of His Innocence In Case Of Attacks On Mumbai In 2008

Chief of banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa Hafiz Saeed reiterated his claim that Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi is innocent. The government of India is trying to exert pressure on the government of Pakistan using its channels of the UN and the US to implicate him in the attacks on Mumbai in 2008.

Saeed’s statement has been met with apprehension by borders of Pakistan. Members of the reigning Bhartiya Janata Party are of the opinion that Lakhvi is involved in the attack. They doubt the authority held by Saeed in issuing such certificates to terrorists. The comment was made soon after the Indian government took up the matter with the UN.

Saeed insists that Indian officials do not hold any kind of legitimate proof against Lakhvi. The exasperation and desperation on the part of the Indian officials is clearly evident in their approaching the United Nations and the US to urge the Pakistani government not to let Lakhvi go free. Saeed said the Pakistani judiciary is free to take decisions on its own. Neither India nor the UN hold any rights to interfere in the judgments delivered by the judges in Pakistan. Saeed reminded of the non-acceptance of several judgments delivered by Pakistani courts in the past.

Indian government officials have taken up the matter with the United Nations. They have implored that the release of Lakhvi by a Pakistani court is a gross violation of the laws laid down by the global body too. Lakhvi was to be tried for his involvement in the attacks on India’s commercial capital, Mumbai, in 2008.
