Evacuations In Chile Are Underway Even As Fears Of Further Eruptions Of Calbuco Volcano Are Rife

Smoke and ash from the eruptions of Calbuco volcano have created problems for the residents of Chile. Several people are on their way back even as the volcano continues to blow its fumes over the land around itself.

As many as 2,000 people were asked to leave the area near Calbuco volcano as soon as it showed signs of eruptions. A river in the vicinity was host to a lot of volcanic debris. This included volcanic ash emanating from two huge eruptions earlier this week.

Volcanic mud, also known as lahars, has the potential to level anything in its path. In view of the dangerous situation, an immediate evacuation of men, women and children was effected. Evacuations began on Wednesday, but a backflow of people was seen on Friday. Towns like Chamiza, Lago Chapo and Correntoso had to be evacuated.

Farmers like Jorge Vargas had to leave behind their livestock. He had to rush to save himself, and his family from the impending danger of the volcano like lava and fly ash.

The bad news about the volcano is that the eruptions could continue for several weeks. The danger might lurk for some months. The danger is not yet over. There is all likelihood of more eruptions. These could be of even greater intensity than the last two. They may leave behind a trail of destruction as severe.

The town of Ensendada was rendered a ghost town in the wake of the eruptions. The town is located at the baser base of the mountain that erupted. The town was covered with soot and ash. Several roofs collapsed because they were not able to sustain the weight of the ash from the volcano.
