Eastern Europe is constantly demanding for help from NATO and United States. As security tensions are growing darker, the US Department of Defense has decided to send Abrams tanks, Paladin howitzers and Bradley fighting vehicles to the region. These weapons and artillery would be sent in the quantities of hundreds. Ashton Carter, Defense Secretary went public with this announcement.
Carter said that the regional allies in the Eastern Europe would get all possible assistance. He also conveyed that the governments in the region are worried about the Russia’s military operations in the Ukraine. Many leaders have accused Russia of territorial aggression and supporting militants to destabilize the country. Last year’s annexation of Crimea by Russia has made the countries worry about the violation of their sovereignty.
The Defense Secretary recently visited Estonia to evaluate the ground conditions and said that American forces would be more active in the military and training exercises in the region. All Eastern European countries were former USSR members and have face violent Soviet military in the cold war period. One armored brigade combat team’s vehicles and related equipment would be stationed in Central and Eastern Europe now.
These pre-planned deployments would help to give quick response to any aggression. General Dynamics Corp. made 250 M1A2 Abrams tanks along with Brain based BAE systems made M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzers and M2/M3 Bradley fighting vehicles are on the deployment list. Romania, Poland, Latvia, Bulgaria and Estonia will host these deployments and all training activities would be handled from Germany.
