U.S., CUBA TO MEET FOR SECOND ROUND OF NORMALIZATION TALKS

U.S., CUBA TO MEET FOR SECOND ROUND OF NORMALIZATION TALKS

On Friday, officials from the U.S. as well as Cuba are set to meet in Washington D.C. for a second round of talks which are aimed at repairing diplomatic relations between the two countries, amid frictions that Cuba is on the list of countries that sponsors terrorism in the world.

The one day talk between senior officials from the two countries follows a decision which was reached upon on December 17th that looks at normalizing the relationship between the U.S. and Cuba. The talks will see U.S. open its embassy in Cuba and Cuba to open theirs in America as well. In addition to that, the two countries are also set to exchange prisoners.

Cuba, which is considered to be a communist country, is working on ensuring that they have been removed from the U.S. list of countries which fund terrorism before diplomatic ties are restored officially given that the country has been impeded when it comes to conducting diplomatic affairs in the U.S. as a result of the sanctions which have been imposed on the countries banks.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, an official from the Obama administration said that they will soon be done with reviewing Cuba’s place on its list of countries that sponsor terrorism which is to be submitted to the congress before the communist country can have its name removed from the list.

According to U.S. officials the talks between the two countries should be centered on key issues that regulate functioning o embassies. Officials in Washington are calling for Cuba to allow there diplomats to be able to move around Cuba freely and also meet who they please.
