Protests against Shell’s arctic drilling grow in the Seattle

If drilling of Arctic becomes a reality, it would be the biggest environmental disaster in the history, considering the Shell’s environmental record.  The deep-sea oil drilling rig by Shell was about to enter in the port of Seattle recently but it left the port now and met with harsh protests. The environmental activists are saying the rig will destroy the ecology of the Alaska. The Kayak-paddling activists raised their voice against shell’s exploration plans in the arctic.
The activists hold the banners and shouted slogan against the corporation riding on their boats nearby the port area. The next destination of the rig is Alaska’s Chukchi Sea. The Obama administration gave green signal to the deep-sea oil drilling in the Arctic region by ignoring massive protests across the nation. The activists responded with innovative way of protesting on boats. These Kayaktivists created colorful barricade around Polar Pioneer, a giant ship carrying the rig.  US Coast Guard had to forcefully pull all the protestors from water as everyone was tied around the ship because they heard about the departure.
Cassady Sharp, a Greenpeace spokesperson informed that the organization is hunting for the arrested activists. The protests will continue till the ship reaches to Alaska. The spokesperson also admitted that the movement has grown significantly around Seattle. The Deep-water horizon incident shocked everyone as massive amount of oil was dumped into ocean due to irresponsible and underequipped oil company. Scientists have also warned against the catastrophic effects of deep-sea drilling citing the examples of recent oil spills in the country.
