Kejriwal Scores Brownie Points Over His First 50 Days In Office

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal celebrates half-century as his government completes 50 days in power on April 4. A Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC) has been formed, to aid the government in fulfilling the promises it made to the electorate.

Provision of subsidy on power and water are some of the promises it made in its manifesto. A deduction of 50 per cent in the monthly power bill for those consuming only 400 units of power in a month has been effected. There is 20,000 litres of free water supplied to all households in Delhi. But all this does cost the taxpayer Rs 1,670 crore per annum.

Among the laudable changes ushered in by AAP in Delhi , there is the rush to register unauthorised colonies in Delhi. This way, slums in the national capital now have a definite postal address. Moreover, a provision has been made for a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the kin of armed forces personnel killed in action.
To boost the capital’s fight against graft, the number of posts of inspector has been raised to 40. AAP government plans to raise funds provided to Anti Corruption Branch to Rs 15 crore from Rs 8 crore.
But along with this bonhomie, there has been a criticism of the government for the stinginess it has displayed in giving funds to municipal corporations that badly need some money to carry on developmental projects in the city.

A decision has been taken to deploy home guards and civil defence personnel at dark spots to ensure the safety of women. Trained marshals are to be on board DTC buses.
