Pregnant women from countries like Eretria, Somali and Libya are heading for European shores to give birth to their babies in safe climates. Continued infighting in African countries has pushed several men and women to take the sea-route to European shores, which they consider to be safe.
They are willing to risk their lives on crowded boats if they can be sure of a good life beyond all the suffering. The number of migrants fleeing to European shores from African has jumped up to 70 per cent in 2015. The pitiful situation in Libya and other African countries is being held responsible for this.
Officials in Libya said they are helpless as there is no way these people can be pout behind bars or even sent home.
Many of them died on the way when the ships smuggling them to foreign lands sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Their bodies can be seen on beaches in Libya. But the bodies offer no clues of their identities.
Those who were arrested considered themselves lucky enough to be alive. A lot of questions remain unanswered. There are questions about why lives were blew off in such a haste. The captain of the vessel has been apprehended for his role in the disaster.
On an average, a large number of migrants flee to the safety of European shores. Quite a few manage to get across without getting caught. Some of them enter Europe through proper legal means with valid visas, and fail to leave when their visas expire.
