Dozens of Miners Missing Feared Dead in rebel East Ukraine

A blast which occurred on Wednesday resulted into several miners being trapped underground at a coal mine that is located in eastern Ukraine with rescues saying that the chances of finding any miner alive are very slim.

According to authorities the blast, which occurred in one of the areas which are being controlled by rebels, was not as a result of an explosion that had resulted from fighting at a nearby front in the ongoing war between the military in Ukraine and the rebels.

Upon learning of the news, over 30 relatives of the miners who were trapped in the mining incident turned up at the Zasyadko mine seeking any information about survivors. A miner who had been injured by the blast could be seen walking among the crowd which had gathered at the mining site with one of his arms hanging motionless by his side due to a collarbone that is broken.

Sergei Baldayev, a miner at the site, said that they were able to recover five bodies from the blast site.

The scene of the incidence was without doubt filled with lots of emotions and Alexei Novoselsky, a sister of one of the miners who were trapped could not stop crying.

"Tell me, are there survivors? Why are you concealing the truth," said Novoselsky when she was being calmed by an employee of a local rescue service.

In the past few months Donetsk has played host to fighting between Moscow-Based separatist rebels who are currently in-charge of the region and forces loyal to the government of kiev.
